Eldar Murtazin, the so-called James Bond of mobiles, has made an interesting tweet according to which Nokia, Microsoft's fresh hardware manufacturer partner, already has not one or two but four Windows Phone 7 handsets.
Research and Development inside Nokia is allegedly playing with four Windows Phone 7 devices. According to Murtazin, two of these are obeying the current chassis specifications (that is 1GHz processor, minimum of 8GB memory and five-megapixel camera). The interesting bit comes at the end where Nokia is said to also have an additional two smartphones obeying the next-gen chassis specifications.
Remember the HTC Ignite? Yes, the one with the alleged 800MHz processor! According to Murtazin, this 800MHz processor will be part of the next Redmond chassis specs for mid-range devices. Nokia seems to already know about these requirements -- wonder if any other OEMs do -- and is playing with to purported devices already. What else will the next hardware requirements bring? HVGA screens to go with slower processors?
There are several rumors surrounding Nokia's first Windows Phone 7 hardware: Paul Thurott said that Mango is not likely to land this year, in which case Nokia will not have a Windows Phone 7 out until 2012. Nokia said it themselves that they're waiting for Mango until releasing any hardware. Additionally, there's Nokia India representative's statement according to which we'll see devices in the first quarter of 2012.
On the other hand there are rumors of Microsoft handing out Mango codes to OEMs by early fall, a scenario in which you might start planning for a Nokia Windows Phone 7 as a Christmas gift.
