HTC's Win Phone 7 Surround Is $550 Off-Contract

Ah, an alternative to spending the next two years married to AT&T.

There's been a lot of Windows Phone 7 talk this week, and a lot of the devices are priced around that same $199 price point that's proven to be the sweet-spot for smartphone purchasers. Though it sounds like you'll be getting a top-of-the-line smartphone jam packed with all kinds of nifty features for under two hundred bones, we all know that most of these phones come with a two-year contract, and oftentimes, you end up on a plan that has too many minutes, texts you don't want and not enough data.

Getting a phone off-contract can be the answer to your problems. Sure, you pay an extra $300 up front, but what's $300 compared to 24 months of a $90 plan you don't even want? Those of you holding off on a Windows Phone 7 device for just this reason will be glad to know that pricing for the HTC 7 Surround will be available off-contract at Best Buy for $550.

The HTC 7 Surround packs a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 3.8-inch 480 x 800 touchscreen display, 8GB of storage, 512MB of ROM, 576MB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video capabilities. The most intriguing feature is that this device has a slide-out speaker and kickstand that provide Dolby Surround sound and the ability to set your phone down and just watch videos.

Any takers?
