IE9 Coming to Windows Phone's Mango Update

Share

Mary Jo Foley of ZDnet has been hearing rumors that a verions of Internet Explorer 9 will be appearing on Windows Phone 7 as part of the "Mango" update expected to appear later this year. The release candidate of IE 9 for Windows 7/Vista was actually just released today. You can download it here if you'd like to try it, and I highly recommend that you do. There are some very impressive performance and usability improvements as well as security and standards support, so you can imagine how some similar improvements might make their way into Internet Explorer for Windows Phone 7.

Currently, the Windows Phone 7 browser is based on a version of Internet Explorer 7 with some parts of IE8 thrown in. It actually works very well and is extremely responsive, so we can imagine having an IE9 engine in there would be even better.
